Acknowledgment of the Land and People
The first part of my doctoral journey was completed on the ancestral lands of the Anishinabeg, Cree, Oji-Cree, Dene, and the Dakota Peoples; the homeland of the Red River Metis Nation. There in the longitudinal centre of what many call Turtle Island is the place called Winnipeg, Manitoba in Treaty One Territory. The second part takes place in the traditional lands of the Lekwungen speaking People along the Gorge estuary where I once again live in rhythm with tidal waters. As is my way, I offer musical accompaniment as a thread of critical pedagogy while you explore my work. As you explore, I invite you to consider how / do/ might you incorporate music as critical pedagogy in your teaching and learning practice? I explore this more deeply in the prefatory pages of my dissertation proposal and it is a theme that will run throughout the dissertation itself. Each blue link uplifts the music of Indigenous artists and invites you to explore sonic landscapes while here. I invite you to my dissertation (when it is done) to explore with me the use of Indigenous hip-hop and other popular music as critical pedagogy.
In addition to the aforementioned, I am influenced by a life lived (often more than once) on:
· the ancestral and unceded territory of the Mi’kmaq People (Halifax, NS)
· the traditional territory of the Anishinaabeg and Haudenosaunee Peoples (Kingston, ON)
· the traditional territory of Anishinaabeg and Haudenosaunee Peoples, specifically the Kahniakehaka (Mohawk of Akewsasne) (Long Sault and Cornwall, ON)
